Len Kne

Len Kne is the Associate Director of U-Spatil, an organization at the University designed to reduce redundency and fragmentation of spatial analysis resources. Len specializes in geographic information systems, designing spatial databases, spatial analysis, and web visualization. Len is also associated with the Minnesota Population Center, and the Department of Geography, Environment, and Society.

David Mulla

Professor Mulla's research emphasis includes: 1) measurement, modeling, and management of uncertainty and risk for non-point source pollution of surface and groundwater; 2) characterization and estimation of field-scale variability for precision farming; 3) evaluation of alternative farm managment strategies for improved soil quality and sustainability; and 4) evaluation of policies for soil and water resources. 

David Pitt

David Pitt

David Pitt has worked with the Metropolitan Council, the McKnight Foundation, and the UMN Center for Urban and Regional Affairs to develop a landscape assessment process that local governments can use to facilitate smart growth in an environmentally responsible way. With several UMN coleagues, Professor Pitt is developing a systemic approach to GeoDesign, which integrates spatial-temporal moedling of landscape performance.

Bryan Runck

Bryan Runck

Bryan Runck is a PhD student in the Department of Geography, Environment and Society at the University of Minnesota. His work focuses on unpacking socio-environmental systems using environmental and agronomic modeling in geographic information systems combined with stakeholder engagement process development. In 2014, he received his Masters of Science Degree in Applied Plant Science from the Department of Agronomy and Plant Genetics at the University of Minnesota. Carissa Schively-Slotterback

Carissa Slotterback

Carissa Slotterback, Associate Professor, teaches courses in environmental planning, public engagmeent, and sustainability planning. Her research is focused on stakeholder involvement and decision-making related to environmental, land use, and transportation planning. She has a particular interest in how stakeholders perceive impacts and use information in making decisions, focusing on impact assessment, collaborative decision-making, and sustainability planning approaches. 

Tim Smith

Tim Smith

Dr. Timothy M. Smith is director of the NorthStar Initiative for Sustainable Enterprise at the University of Minnesota’s Institute on the Environment, where he is also an associate professor of environmental sciences, policy and management, and bioproducts and biosystems engineering at the University of Minnesota.

Smith’s research focuses on policy and market adoption of technologies that enhance environmental performance, public and private governance of sustainability, and sustainability systems modeling in decision making. 

Peter Wiringa

Peter Wiringa

Before returning to school for in the Master of Geographic Information Science program and working as a research assistant for U-Spatial, Pete was a web developer at the University, working with the central communications group. Prior to that, he provided technical training and support at the University and for St. Paul Public Schools. He has a B.A. in mathematics with emphases in statistics and applied mathematics. His interests include geospatial analysis and modeling, GIS development, and community GIS.

Marcus Grubbs

Marcus Grubbs

Marcus is a Research Fellow at the University of Minnesota. Marcus's best days are those in which he gets to mix it up with customers and community members. His passion is for working with stakeholders on issues at the intersection of economic development and natural resources.
